Why is the meta description not used?

I have dutifully built my website with all the necessary meta tags, including the description tag, but Google just picks a random piece of text from the home page for its description, instead of using my more succinct meta description. Why?

Meta tags are not very much focused these days, you can just enter description without meta tag, try to increase other methods if possible for you

Dont use keywords again and again in meta tags...use them differently...your site might not be indexed again in google with new description

Meta descriptions don't carry much weight these days.
or maybe your meta tags have no relation with the content on your page.

Google can define short of description according to quires from pages. it is not necessarily using meta discretion for search result even Now Google can change your page Title too.

Google does not take the META tags into much importance. That's why Google just picks keywords from your content. So have more unique content with keywords and also related words.

Is your meta description highly related to the content of your page?

It probably happened because of high keyword density of the meta description you added. try decreasing it.

It may be a problem in your meta description because Google access meta description only.
