Normally the preference is given to do follow links by search engines but what happen to no follow links does no follow links gets considered by search engines?

According to my knowledge Google count no follows link as backlinks. Nofollow links don't pass page rank, and if you are trying to build more backlinks than your competition then nofollow links won't help you there.
